Restoring Dignity Through Safe and Decent Housing

Restoring Dignity Through Safe and Decent Housing

During a community outreach initiative, H.E. Dr. Joyce G.N. Kithure learned that two of her former primary school classmates were living in difficult conditions due to severe poverty in their village. Deeply moved by their circumstances, she took the initiative to support them in securing safer and more dignified housing. This act of kindness reflects her commitment to compassion, solidarity, and improving the lives of those facing hardship within local communities.

Through this personal initiative, H.E. Dr. Joyce G.N. Kithure facilitated the construction of brick houses for both former classmates, including Madam Stella, replacing their old homes with more secure and decent shelters. Each house cost approximately 140,000, bringing the total cost of the two houses to 280,000. The photographs below show Madam Stella’s former house alongside the new brick house constructed to improve her living conditions.

This initiative demonstrates how practical acts of compassion can make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals. Beyond providing improved shelter, the houses offer the beneficiaries greater security, dignity, and peace of mind. In line with the mission of SaVE Communities Project, this initiative highlights the importance of identifying genuine community needs and responding with tangible solutions that uplift lives, restore hope, and contribute to sustainable community development.
