Fundraiser for The Construction of Classrooms and a Science Laboratory at Obalwanda Comprehensive School

February 24

H.E. Dr. Joyce G. N. Kithure called for renewed commitment from parents, teachers, and all stakeholders in the education sector to ensure that every child has access to quality education and a supportive learning environment.

Speaking on during a fundraiser for the construction of classrooms and a science laboratory at Obalwanda Comprehensive School in Suba North, Homa Bay County, H.E. Dr. Joyce G. N. Kithure emphasized that education remains the ultimate equaliser and a foundation for building a better society.

She further called upon the stakeholders to go the extra mile to ensure no child is left behind in the pursuit of academic excellence. “Let us ensure that no child is left behind due to neglect, discouragement, or lack of support,” she urged.

H.E. Dr. Joyce G. N. Kithure noted that shaping children into responsible and productive members of society requires close collaboration between parents, guardians, teachers, and the wider community.

“I urge parents and guardians to continue working closely with teachers to instill discipline, values, and a love for learning in our children,” she said.

As a senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi, H.E. Dr. Joyce G. N. Kithure encouraged learners to remain focused on their studies, avoid misdeeds, and show respect to their teachers, parents, and guardians.

“I encourage you to remain focused on your studies. Education is your greatest equalizer. Be disciplined, curious, and determined. Respect your teachers, use your time wisely, and believe in your ability to succeed. Hard work and integrity will always open doors for you,” she added.

She was accompanied by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga during the event.

H.E. Dr. Joyce G. N. Kithure also underscored the importance of continued investment in school infrastructure to create conducive learning environments.

“When we invest in classrooms, laboratories, and safe learning spaces, we invest in the future of our children and the future of our nation,” she said.

She highlighted that the construction of a science laboratory at the school aligns with the broader vision of promoting STEM education and practical learning, noting that such facilities nurture curiosity, innovation, and problem-solving skills among learners, preparing them for a competitive and rapidly changing world.

H.E. Dr. Joyce G. N. Kithure further spoke about the Science Adding Value to the Environment and the Communities (SaVE) project, which she is spearheading. The initiative aims to leverage science in addressing common challenges facing communities across the country.

Through SaVE Communities, vulnerable groups are being supported with food relief, schools are receiving water tanks to facilitate rainwater harvesting, and farmers are being advised on climate-smart agriculture practices, including suitable crop selection and smart farming methods in response to harsh climate conditions. By linking education to practical interventions such as food security, water access and environmental conservation, the initiative positions schools as centres for innovation and resilience at the grassroots.

The project has also intensified tree-planting efforts in various regions as part of its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. H.E. Dr. Joyce G. N. Kithure reiterated that collective responsibility and sustained investment in education and community empowerment are key to securing a brighter future for the nation’s children.
