Mothers’ Day Celebrations Held at H.E. Dr. Joyce G. N. Kithure’s Official Residence in Karen

Speaking during Mother’s Day celebrations in Karen on Sunday, H.E. Dr. Joyce G. N. Kithure applauded mothers across the country for their dedication, resilience, and invaluable contribution to families and communities. Addressing leaders, guests, and families at the event, she described mothers as the cornerstone of society whose efforts often go unrecognized despite their significant influence in nurturing responsible citizens and future leaders.

“It is with great honor and joy for me to join you on this special occasion as we celebrate Mother’s Day, a day set aside to recognise, appreciate, and honour the incredible role mothers play in our families, communities and our nation,” Kithure said.

She highlighted that the role of a mother goes far beyond caregiving, noting that mothers serve as educators, mentors, and a child’s earliest source of affection and guidance.

“A mother is often the first teacher, the first caregiver, the first counsellor and the first source of love a child experiences,” she said.

“Behind many successful families, responsible citizens, and great leaders, there is usually a mother who sacrificed quietly, prayed faithfully and worked tirelessly.”

The Second Lady expressed gratitude to mothers for their unwavering commitment to raising families amid growing economic and social challenges. She acknowledged the sacrifices many women make daily to ensure stability and a brighter future for their children and communities.

“Thank you for waking up early and sleeping late so that your children may have a better future,” she said.

“Thank you for nurturing values of honesty, discipline, kindness and hard work.”

H.E. Dr. Joyce G. N. Kithure also recognized the difficulties many mothers face, including financial constraints, health-related challenges, and the emotional demands of parenting in a rapidly evolving society.

“As we celebrate today, we must also remember that motherhood is not always easy,” Dr. Kithure said.

“Many mothers continue to face economic challenges, health struggles, emotional stress and the responsibility of raising children in a rapidly changing world.”

She called on leaders, institutions, and communities to foster environments that enable women and mothers to prosper both socially and economically. According to her, empowering women is essential for community transformation and achieving long-term development objectives.

“At the SaVE Communities Initiative, we believe that empowering women and mothers is key to transforming communities,” she said. “When we empower a mother, we uplift a family. When we educate a woman, we strengthen a generation.”

H.E. Dr. Joyce G. N. Kithure further linked women’s empowerment to key national priorities such as environmental conservation, food security, climate action, and community development. She emphasized that women, especially mothers, are central to sustainable development and should be actively involved in initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and strengthening communities.

“As we continue championing science, environmental conservation, clean water, food security, climate action and community empowerment, we recognize that women, especially mothers, remain at the centre of sustainable development,” she added.

The Second Lady also encouraged young people to show appreciation and respect for their mothers beyond Mother’s Day celebrations by demonstrating positive values and conduct in their daily lives.

“Celebrate them not only with gifts and words today, but through your character, your discipline, your hard work and your compassion every day,” she said.

In an emotional message, Kithure offered encouragement to mothers who may feel overwhelmed, unrecognized, or discouraged, reminding them that their contributions have a lasting impact on society and future generations.

“To the mothers who may feel tired, discouraged or unappreciated, please remember this: your work matters. Your love matters. Your sacrifice matters,” she said.

“Even when nobody notices, your impact is shaping the future of our society.”

She concluded by calling for greater unity within families and communities, urging Kenyans to uphold peace, hope, and mutual support while building a society where mothers are respected, protected, valued, and empowered.

“As we celebrate this beautiful day, let us continue to promote unity in families, peace in our communities and hope for future generations,” she said. “Let’s continue building a society where every mother is valued, respected, protected and empowered.”

The Mother’s Day event brought together community leaders, women’s organizations, and families to honor mothers and recognize their significant contribution to society.
