The Inaugural First Ladies of Africa Impact and Resilience (FLAIR) Forum and Expo 2025 was held at the University of Nairobi’s Chandaria Auditorium, bringing together an exceptional assembly of leaders, innovators, and influential women from across Africa and the global community. The event convened First Ladies, government representatives, diplomats, policymakers, academia, industry leaders, civil society, and young innovators to engage in a high-level dialogue on advancing women’s leadership and innovation across the continent.

Presided over by notable dignitaries, including Kenya’s First Lady H.E. Rachel Ruto, the Second H.E. Dr. Joyce G. N. Kithure, H.E. Dr. Ida Odinga, and University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor Prof. Margaret Hutchinson, the forum emphasized the transformative power of women’s leadership and innovation. The theme, “Impact and Innovation with Africa’s Visionary Women: Catalyzing Women’s Transformative Leadership for Accelerated Impact,” highlighted Africa’s commitment to aligning women’s empowerment initiatives with Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2030).

Speakers underscored key areas of women’s advancement. The First Lady celebrated Kenyan women as agents of change and emphasized the economic empowerment achieved through table banking initiatives. The Second Lady highlighted opportunities for women in STEM, stressing that inclusive participation in STEM is essential for innovation and sustainable development. H.E. Dr. Ida Odinga reflected on the significant gains brought by devolution, which has opened political space for women and increased their representation in governance. She encouraged women to actively register, vote, and pursue leadership roles. The Vice-Chancellor affirmed the University’s commitment to nurturing women’s leadership across all academic and professional sectors.
